What is MFR - Myofascial Release Therapy

Fascia

Fascia is a densely woven system of connective tissue that protects, surrounds, and attaches to every organ, muscle, bone, artery, vein, nerve, and cell in the body.  It is one continuous structure - interconnecting and influencing all systems in the body.  When fascia is healthy is stretches and glides in response to the physical demands of the body in movement.

Trauma in the Body

Imagine a tree has a hole punctured into the trunk, such as tapping for syrup. Over the next few days, the tree protects itself and repairs the damage by creating resin. This protects the tree, keeping it safe. Over time, the resin hardens, becoming amber.

When the body experiences a trauma - physical or emotional - it will try to protect itself. In doing so, the fascia can become short, thick, tight, or twisted (think of the resin). If fascia remains in the position of strain, it will create tension in the body and over time, (think of the amber) lead to chronic or debilitating pain.

Myofascial Release Therapy

It is possible that a person could be living in pain after a misdiagnosis or being told nothing is wrong because standard medical tests cannot detect fascial restrictions.

MFR therapy allows the body to return to a healthy state of being by awakening awareness of restrictions and holding patterns. Each layer of fascia is encouraged to release, stretch and unwind as it moves into proper alignment for pain free living.
